"Dreams"

Hold fast to dreams/ For if dreams die/ Life is a broken-winged bird/ That cannot fly.// Hold fast to dreams/ For when dreams go/ Life is a barren field/ Frozen with snow. Langston Hughes

mm, just got a really really good story from my friend... (it is a buddhist story)

once upon a time, there was a scholar, who made a promise to marry his fiancee in the year of XXX month of XXX and XXth day. The day came, but the fiancee married some one else. the scholar was traumatized and fell to sickness. his family tried all methods to make him feel better, but nothing helped. death was waiting for him.

a monk came by one day and heard about the story. he decided to teach the scholar something new. the monk showed the scholar a mirror and asked him to look into it.

the scholar saw the vast ocean and a naked woman's corpse by the beach. some one passed by the body, shaked his head, and walked away. another person passed by, took off his clothings and covered the body with it... the third person walked by later and buried the body carefully. sudden, the images changed, and he saw his fiancee's wedding veil taken off by her husband. he didn't know what that meant.

the monk explained, "the body on the beach was your fiancee's former life. you were the second passerby who covered her body with your clothings. you fell in love with each other, because she needed to return the favor to you. however, her final destination is to give back to the person who burried her, and the person is her current husband.

it all came clear to him, and the scholar rose from the bed, fully recovered.

"yuan" is an amazing thing (this is still part of the story that my friend sent to me). we are all in a masked ball. in the crowd, we are all trying to find a moment of the electrical shock. however, at the same time, when the masks are off and the faces are shown, we start to doubt, wondering what exactly we want or even questioning what we've been searching for. until you find the right person, you will not understand yourself... you will realize that the thing you have always wanted is not something that you really want. (blah blah blah blah...) you cannot force "yuan"... when it is yours, it will come sooner or later. when it is not yours, no matter how hard you work for it, it will not be yours. however, never be hopeless. never give up your values on truth, goodness, and beauty of life......

interesting, right? mom said something like that to me the other day... today, this story just struck me hard. i will keep it in mind.

p.s. got really really emotional eating lunch at Shaw b/c i was watching "Tarzan"...almost had the impulse to just run to the lady's room and hide in the stall. i love that movie...(as much as I love Lilo and Stitch).
