"Dreams"

Hold fast to dreams/ For if dreams die/ Life is a broken-winged bird/ That cannot fly.// Hold fast to dreams/ For when dreams go/ Life is a barren field/ Frozen with snow. Langston Hughes

this is a moment happened at work one afternoon, about two weeks ago.......and i still remember it really well.

Our 100 year-old lady was sitting at her usual spot by the dining table while the housekeeper lady was cleaning the dining room floor. I decided to pull a chair by her and chat with her.

A.S.: This is a strange world...
P.C.: What do you mean?
A.S.: Well...this is a world with women. (looking at the housekeeper lady and a care manager behind the kitchen.) All the women are doing the work! There is no man!
P.C.: Yeah, there are not that many men around this community.
A.S.: Where are all the men? Why are the women doing men's work? This is really a different world here...

It is quite amazing that this 100 years old lady still observes her surrounding closely. This tiny little white-haired woman dozes off easily yet she still sees and listens. She's right about women doing a lot of men's work. At the office where I work, all the staff are women...

Is it because women can be as capable as men both intellectually and physically? Or is it because women are better caregivers at a community of Alzheimer's and dementia residents? Or is it because men don't think about applying to jobs offered by the place where I work? I wonder..... not that it is really important to find out...

It is just what A.S. said is so true that it struck me still...

had a splendid birthday with mom, charlie, and shine.... :) i wish it had never ended. we had dim sum @ chinatown, nutella fruit crepe @ japan town, watched the golden gate from the east bay, and walked the artsy street of sausalito...then ate really yummy churrasco (brazilian bbq)... life treats me well...

anyhow...i'll try to keep my optimistic mind and be more appreciative of my work place, especially for those old people.....
