oh yeah....forgot to add something i meant to say...
fireflies...saturday last week, we were trying to catch fireflies... there was this japanese animation movie years ago called "the grave of the fireflies" that i watched in taiwan. the most heartbreaking movie... i was literally crying throughout the whole thing. the little sister caught a bunch of fireflies in this jar with her brother on the bank of a river. it was their way of fun of the lonely nights because they are orphans due to the bombing that destroyed their home and killed their mother. the war also killed their father whom was in the military service. the fireflies were so symbolic of the short and fragile life of the ones in captivity of the horrible world war 2. the sister woke up the next morning, finding all of the fireflies motionless on the bottom of the jar. the realistic lines on her face were so carefully drawn that you can feel the sadness of her loss. and throughout the movie, you see the two kids grow to love and depend on one another, because they had nobody. others were too busy in their own sorrow. you see these two kids struggle for life and finally succumb to life's ultimate enemy, death. maybe it is best that we didn't catch any fireflies. they belong to the bushes and the fields by the creek and the lake.
i asked kimi about world war 2 during work the other day. she was only 2 when the war ended, but she saw the victims of the atomic bomb on the street begging for money/food. she didn't know what they were until later when she learned. i can never imagine seeing someone with their skin hanging off of them, draping down. that's literally "face off"... "melted" was the word that kimi used to describe the skin. they would walk with their arms lifted up horizontally to the ground so that they wouldn't step on the "melted" skin. the image is absolutely gruesome. she wants me to go visit Hiroshima when I get a chance to visit Japan in the future.
p.s. i set a beetle that wandered off into our store to freedom on Sunday... i cannot understand why i liked to catch butterflies when i was younger... and the butterflies would die soon after i catch them, because i liked to touch their soft powdery wings. i would feel sorry for the butterflies when they die, but i would go out again and try to catch more... i also set a greenish flying bug to freedom on Sunday... it was so tiny that you can barely see its small existence, but it was there while i was wiping the glass doors.
p.s.s. gerber baby food, step 3, "herbed chicken & pasta" does NOT taste good. however, the step 2, tropical fruit was pretty decent. it tasted like mango and guava.
